Start

Witches Forest

This very beautiful forest is a very special place where you can spot some quetzals if you are lucky. This 2.8 km trail leads to a camping area where you can spend the night if you start the trip to the top in the afternoon.

Machete Edge

This point is located behind a large rock, approximately 3.3 km from the beginning of the trail. On this part of the trail you can enjoy the first great view on the village. There are stones where you can sit on, relax and eat something.
Furthermore the trail leads us to a natural spring (The Well).

Las Flores

Las Flores is a rest area that is between kilometer 4 and 5. It is called “las flores” because it is already above the tree-line. There are many shrubs, flowering plants and beautiful views. Camping or just having a break is possible at this point.

The Wall

You reach “The Wall”, a climbing area about 50 meters, similar to an artificial wall, after a 5 km walk. There is a point where the best panoramic view of the town and sometimes sea views can be spotted. The flora in this area is scarce and there are small trees because it is a rocky and high area.

The Cable

“The Cable” is a steep area, close to the crater, where you can use the cable to climb the hill.
An other possibility is to use a rocky trail, which is about 3000 meter.

The Crater

After more or less 8 km you reach the crater of the volcano. There are very few places in the world where you can camp and spend the night in the crater. Usually, if you start when we recommend, you are arriving to the crater at around 2-4 pm. You can walk around the crater and assemble your tent there.

The Peak

There it is: The peak, the tallest point of Panama. All the efforts are forgotten by the stunning view from the peak.
It is possible to continue your trip to the town on this day, but we recommend to stay the night on the top to see a beautiful sunrise and on clear days both oceans.

But if they feel threaten they can attack, so that we recommend to go with a guide.
